This month is celebrated as The 20th Anniversary of "Exile In Guyville" the debut album from Liz Phair. This brings out a lot of memories of the year 1993. MTV Alternative Nation, 120 Mins, Phoenix Suns, Super Nintendo, and of course batch of female alt-rockers like PJ Harvey, Heather Nova, and Liz Phair. Liberated in lyrics and self expression in interviews, Liz Phair became one of hot chicks with guitars in the 90s. Surprisingly, while most of the 90s acts have become disbanded or gone hiatus, LIz Phair is proven to be a survivor. She's been releasing good albums in the noughties, and still pretty relevant to today's music. And yes, Liz Phair is still hot after all these years :) Time to grab this vintage Liz Phair "April 1995" t-shirt here, it's not a Guyville one but still.... Today 25 years ago, a legendary Depeche Mode concert heppened. This is a quote from Depeche Mode website: For the 101st show of the Music For The Masses Tour, the band played a special stadium show at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California. Coinciding with the 10th anniversary of KROQ FM (a long time supporter of the band), the all-day concert featured Wire, Thomas Dolby and O.M.D. as the opening acts. Get the vintage Depeche Mode 101 / Music For The Masses tour t-shirt (UK version) here Time for another band tees parody. Hospitals is an energetic young band from Essex UK, not to be confused with The Hospitals from SF US, and they deliver a fine aggressive scream-o tunes. It's only natural that they pay a homage to Nirvana's "Vestibule" t-shirt in their merchandise.
To buy that Hospitals Nirvana-esque t-shirt go here As to purchase that rare vintage Nirvana "Vestibule" longsleeve tee go here Been raining cats and dogs, and I've been stuck at home. So I did some youtube-ing while trying to recall songs about (t) shirts. Check out these songs written about / mentioning (t) shirts :) FUGAZI - MERCHANDISE > The song is about the band's stand point towards band merchandise. Apparently, Fugazi never officially sell any t-shirt. They don't really approve of the idea of selling any merchandise other than their music. And the irony is, their "This Is Not Fugazi T-Shirt" bootleg tee has been one of highly sought after tees. THE LEMONHEADS - FAVOURITE T > Off my favourite album by Evan Dando & co. "C'mon Feel The Lemonheads" (1993). A stripped down love song a la college rock. Check out this vintage longsleeve Lemonheads t-shirt here TWO PEOPLE - THIS IS THE SHIRT > Hailing from England, Two People emerged in New Wave / New Romantics scene back in the 80s. Never really got international recognition at the time, but has become a favorite of the obscure 80s music fans. RUBBER - T SHIRT > Check out the video. All the cool indie kids wear stripey tees in the 90s. THE CRICKETS - T SHIRT > Can you spot what bands tees are displayed on the video? I love that Love & Rockets one :) DADA LIFE - ROLLING STONES T-SHIRT > Ok, I have no idea who they are before today. But it's a nice video. And can you stay focused on the RS tees? If you know what I mean, ha! Check out this rare vintage Rolling Stones t-shirt here CHRIS SIEVEY & THE FRESHIES - IF YOU REALLY LOVE ME...BUY ME A SHIRT > Very nice power pop tune, and the title says it all. Put this on a mixtape for your loved ones, and ask them to buy you one of these babies xD
Never noticed her in Jumanji, ha. But after Virgin Suicides, Kirsten Dunst began getting my attention, maybe because of her darker characters. And that includes her role in apocalyptic Melancholia. Wonder if there's a darker role for her in the future.
Here she is rocking Low's "Someday This Will All Make Sense" t-shirt in her movie Elizabethtown. Get that same tee here 06 June 1990 - A Federal judge in Florida declared that 2 Live Crew's "As Nasty As They Wanna Be" LP was obscene. Hence the tee design on the right (image from our fellow seller WycoVintage)
Check out our vintage hip hop tees collection here The scene does really celebrate itself. Back from the heyday, the bands had always been supporting each other. Slowdive's Rachel Goswell and Nick Chaplin showed some love for fellow gazers The Telescopes and Cranes.
Check out that vintage Cranes t-shirt worn by Nick Chaplin here Who doesn't know 4AD? One of the best independent label out from the 80s and still survive keeping up with the millenials. They gave us hundreds of bands, and many of them are highly influential to today's music scene.
Vaughan Oliver is the artist behind 4AD distinctive sleeves, posters, t-shirts, and other promotional items design. As much as you enjoy music 4AD, you'll likely to enjoy the designs as well. Today's Three Is A Crowd features t-shirts from GusGus, This Mortal Coil, and Liliput (A compilation by 4AD artists). Check out some vintage 4AD t-shirts here, as for the GusGus "This Is Normal" t-shirt, is available here |
